SLOW DAYS

small trips, slow trains, long lunches

Onomichi, again

Took the local line along the coast and got off where the cats outnumber the people. The temple path was empty in the morning; by noon the lemon cake shop had a queue, which felt like the correct order of things.

A rainy afternoon in Kurashiki

The canal district in the rain is mostly reflections. Ducked into a kissaten that has clearly not changed its menu since 1985 and ordered the pudding. No regrets.

Notes on the Enoden line

Fourteen stations, one car wide in places, and the sea keeps interrupting. Rode it end to end twice because the first time I was too busy looking out the window to take a single note.
